Presentation recognized LIBT’s breast cancer awareness efforts

Jerry Flaxman, co-producer of the Atlantic City In-Water Boat Show, participated in a recognition event, Friday, September 5, as Carol Threatt, manager, Margate Post Office, and Dimiter Topchev, acting postmaster of Atlantic City Post Office, presented Kim Kirk with a poster of the first USPS semipostal stamp.

It supports a cause that is also the focus of the Ladies Bluefish Invitational Tournament, of which Kim is president.

Each year LIBT and its women anglers fish for a breast cancer cure. And for several years Carol has coordinated Operation: Code Pink, an October breast cancer awareness campaign held throughout South Jersey and Delaware post offices.

Both the USPS and LIBT were at the show to promote awareness of the disease. On Friday, the Tournament’s Booth 72 was a one-day USPS Station, where attendees received a specially designed cancellation stamp when they purchased the semipostal stamp. There to help was Michele Brubaker, sales and service associate at the Margate post office.

Money raised
The LIBT logo is a mermaid with attitude. And that’s appropriate. Because even though the Ladies Invitational Bluefish Tournament enjoy a good time, they are serious about fighting breast cancer. Over 10 years, the LIBT has raised $380,000.

The stamp, too, is significant in the fight against breast cancer. The extra 13 cents that the stamp costs goes toward research for a cure. To date, $54 million has been raised in the U.S., with 70% going to the National Institutes of Health and 30% to the Medical Research Program at the Department of Defense. Issued on July 29, 1998, the stamp is the first semipostal in U.S. history.

The stamp also is part of an international campaign, The Global Journey. Romania and the Philippines soon will join a list of 1ist of 12 countries that issue the stamp to raise money for education, outreach and treatment of women diagnosed with breast cancer. Notably, every penny stays in the country that issues that stamp.

The salon makes excellent use of the wide beam and allows plentiful seating for family and guests. A large U-shaped settee is to starboard with the well-equipped entertainment center and two barrel chairs opposite. A clever bar area separates the salon from the dining area and features an icemaker, refrigerator, and abundant bottle and glass storage.

Galley

The galley is equipped for preparing magnificent gourmet meals or a late night snack while star gazing on the upper deck. The main helm offers twin adjustable seating and a sliding door to the starboard side deck, while the adjacent raised dinette forward offers panoramic views and enjoys plenty of natural lighting thanks to the large forward windshield and side windows.
